Travelling to Kaikoura, New Zealand for a summer vacation in a holiday park allows you to enjoy what has long been a part of “kiwi” life for some time when it comes to holidays.
Situated in the South Island, Kaikoura is easily accessible by car, train, bus and from some New Zealand locations – plane. From Christchurch its approx a 2 hour and 45 minute drive, of which there are plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat and stretch your legs. There is also some great scenery to enjoy along the way.
Booking a stay at a holiday park in Kaikoura doesn’t mean that you have to stay in a tent either, there are other options such as motel units and cabins which still allow you to enjoy the park like surroundings of a holiday park but without having to set a tent up first!
Holiday park accommodations are generally an affordable option too, there are still on peak and off peak rates that apply but these are usually much lower than the likes of standalone motels and hotels.
Whilst Kaikoura is a small township, it is oozing with things to see and do – many tourists simply enjoy sitting on the beach and listen to the rolling waves crash onto the pebbles, but for those of you who would like some ideas to get your plans started, consider these options:
Dolphin Encounter Kaikoura – If you like the sound of swimming with dusky dolphins in their natural environment or watching them from aboard a boat, make a booking with Dolphin Encounter Kaikoura. The tours are around 3 to 3 1/2 hours long and a guided commentary is provided throughout. During the summer season these tours are very popular so it’s important to book ahead of time if you want to take part.
Fyffe View Ranch Adventure Park – Here there is something for just about anyone. From horse trekking, archery, the luge and a Farm Park there is plenty to keep you occupied. The horse treks are around 2 hours long and go through native bush, rivers and farmlands, whilst the archery facility is indoors and tutorials are available. On the luge you hop into a mountain kart and go on an adrenalin pumping ride downhill. For those that want something a little more easy going the Farm Park provides a wide range of wildlife which you can feed, cuddle and talk to.
Kaikoura Helicopters World of Whales – Hop on board the helicopter for a birds eye view of Sperm Whales off of the coast of Kaikoura or fly over the Seaward Kaikouras mountain range.
Kaikoura Wilderness Walks – Take a luxury guided walking tour through the Puhi Peaks Nature Reserve which is privately owned and offers a wide range of of rare and endangered native species of New Zealand flora and fauna.
Tutis Restaurant & Bar – Whether you would like breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack in between, Tutis Restaurant & Bar can treat you to seafood, meat, vegetarian and Indonesian or Singaporean dishes, if you are travelling with children, there’s also a kids menu.
Whatever you choose to do, booking a stay at holiday park accommodation in Kaikoura is a great affordable option.
