Touring the Heavenly Ghana


The Republic of Ghana is located in West Africa. The country has varied terrain from beaches to desert to highlands. The weather conditions are ideal for foreigners. However, Ghana is the closest country to the equator; therefore, it generally has a hot and humid climate round the year. Due to its varying terrain, Ghana has heavenly scenic sites all over, which brings in many tourists to Ghana.


The only requirement to visit Ghana is; a valid passport and a visa issued by home governments. An exception for the citizens of ECOWAS member countries is that their travel certificates are acceptable, if in case, passport is not available. Before visiting Ghana, what need to be taken care of, are the vaccinations, particularly those of malaria, cholera and yellow fever. Medical facilities are limited outside Accra. The currency of Ghana is called “Cedi” where $1 USD is equal to 14,055.8 cedi. All major international credit cards are acceptable in Ghana.


The most important thing is to keep up with Ghanaian mannerisms. These include bowing on knees to pay respect while meeting a higher official and shaking hands, always using right hand for picking food, to pay tips, more popularly known as “dashes” in Ghana. Taking permission before taking photos is very important.

Flying to and Setting Down:

Flying in, basic commodities and accommodation is not an issue. One needs to do just a little bit of survey to find the best package for them. Thanks to travel agencies, cheap flights to Accra, Ghanaare easily available. As for hotels and accommodation, guesthouses and 1star hotels are widespread. While getting reservations in even 2-5 star hotels is not a difficult job. Car hiring can easily be done according to one’s wish; chauffeur-driven, long-term hire with or without a driver.

Enjoying Ghana:

Once through with all the necessary arrangements and information, one must know of the visiting sites and entertainment in Ghana. Ghana is a country of rich cultural heritage, history as old as 1500 BC, traditions, events, nightlife, food, wine, fashion and style. Once the traveler starts touring Ghana, all the worries are forgotten. Beaches are a must visit if one gets a chance to go to Accra. To name a few, Coco Beach and Bojo Beach are two excellent beaches. The archeological sites add to the interest of tourists.

Cape Coast’s Castle and Saint George’s Castle are two such sites that tell beautiful stories of the glorious past of Ghana. National Museum of Ghana is a good choice for history lovers. Those interested in nature and adventure would surely love Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Kakum National Park. For shopping, Makola market is a popular place. However, it is advisable to shop in Ghana with a local to get the best guidance and avoid being misled or gently looted. For entertainment, travelers need to keep the Ghanaian calendar of cultural, traditional and social events.

Traditional villagers’ festivities are going on round the year. Whereas the beauty pageant, concerts and other variety shows of Accra are great excitements. Music festivals, food and wine festivals and many other festivities are a part of Ghanaian life. Moreover, for nightlife entertainment and food, try out clubbing and eating out at Zanzibar Bar and Restaurant, Monsoon and Mama Mia’s. There is a never-ending list of restaurants and bars, which make Ghana, a perfect destination for food and wine lovers.
