If you like jazz, visit Barbados only when it’s the Barbados Jazz Festival, which is held in January, at various venues and one of the most popular is Farley Hill National Park, a very cool area with many mature trees providing excellent shade. Local and international artistes are showcased.
For others, visit during the Annual Flower & Garden Show and Open Gardens in January, the Open Gardens, however, continue into February. There is also the Open Houses event, which is every Wednesday afternoon, until April.
If you are a POLO fan, visit only when in the month of January there can be as many as fifteen polo matches, with Barbados teams playing against various international teams. The local Polo Season stretches into April with approximately another thirty matches.
January is the best time for volleyball, as there is the Annual Barbados Volleyball Winter Championships, which actually begins in late December.
Cricket fans, visit the island only when in February and March, there are international Test Matches and the very popular One Day Internationals.
In February vacation only when it’s the Holetown Festival which commemorates the English settlement of Barbados. Holetown is the site where the colonizers first landed. The festival is a street affair with a variety of activities.
The Colin Hudson Great Train Hike, now this is the best time to visit Barbados, if you are up to walking through a variety of local landscapes during February. Additionally, every Sunday throughout the year at different venues, Hike Barbados offers a morning hike at 6:00am and an afternoon version at 3:30pm.
Another outdoor event is the Holder’s Opera Season, which begins in mid March and extends into April, featuring local and international performers in music and drama.
Be in Barbados only when the Sandy Lane Gold Cup horse racing event comes off the first Saturday in March, as the highlight of the racing calendar featuring a lineup of local and international horses.
Perhaps you are into tennis, if so then it’s the international junior tennis championships held between the end of March and the first week in April.
Visit Barbados only when between the months of December and April, the weather is more accommodating; it’s cooler and quite breezy, for those who need to keep things cool and comfortable.
